Greetings fellow Fishhuggers! First off, we have another Real Dairy pick
up scheduled for this Thursday, March 22 from 2-5pm at our home, 2031 N
47th St, Phoenix. Organic/Pasture Fed/Raw Milk, Cheese, Cream and Butter
will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Also available at our Real Dairy pick up will be Wild Salmon and Halibut,
Bariani Olive Oil, 12+ varieties of raw, unfiltered honey and more. As
always, sampling is encouraged!
Just a reminder that we'll be off to New Mexico and Alaska for the next 6
months beginning the first of May. We have approximately 5 more weeks of
farmers markets in the Phoenix area. If you'd like to stock your freezer

FISH FRAUD FIX It will soon be easier to make sure those fish you are
buying are the real thing. Fish frauds are at an all time high, and
suppliers are too often substituting fakes for higher-value
species--farmed salmon for wild, for example, or tilapia or catfish for
grouper. A project underway at Ontario's Guelph University may soon allow
people to test their own fish, even while sitting at a restaurant. Called
the Barcode of Life, the project aims to build a genetic sequence database
for every known plant and animal species on earth. Researchers have
developed a wireless, handheld device that can analyze a sliver of fish
and identify it within minutes. They predict it will be widely used in
5-10 years. The device can also be used to target invasive species at

2007 SALMON FORECAST PREDICTS A BUMPER CROP Southeast Alaska troll
fishermen are seeing record prices at the docks for king salmon, and
consumers are lining up to buy king fillets in Anchorage for up to
$24.95/lb. Whole kings, when available are selling for $16.99/lb. And if
you don't like those prices, just wait until the halibut season opens
later this month. The International Pacific Halibut Commission dropped
the quota, so the price will go up. The Alaska Department of Fish and
Game have forecast the following harvest for 2007: 108 million pink
salmon, 40.9 million sockeye salmon, 24.8 million keta salmon, 4.8 million

ICE CREAM AND FERTILITY Women who have a weakness for ice cream and other
high-fat dairy products have a greater chance of getting pregnant than
women who limit themselves to skim milk, says a new study. Harvard
researchers analyzed the records of 18,000 women who tried to get pregnant
during the 1990s. They found that women who ate a daily serving of
high-fat dairy such as cheese, whole milk, and ice cream were 27 percent
less likely to be infertile. Women who ate low-fat dairy every day had an
85 percent higher risk of a form of infertility caused by a failure to
release eggs. Dr. Jorge Chavarro, the study author said women who are
trying to get pregnant should ignore the usual dietary guidelines and eat
one or two servings of high-fat dairy every day. SOURCE: The Week
